Economic Development

Laguna Beach takes great pride in facilitating a healthy local economy. We have a two-year Economic Development Action Plan that was developed by the City Council Economic Development/Business Assistance Subcommittee in collaboration with the Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce and Visit Laguna Beach, which was adopted on June 14, 2016.

There are three goals to the City's Action Plan that include:

1. Business Retention, Expansion, and Attraction

2. Enhance the customer experience for residents in a way that visitors also enjoy

3. Support the implementation of the Cultural Arts Plan

Just listen to these Laguna Beach business owners:

"The first step [toward opening our business] was attending an Open for Business meeting downtown. Our gift shop, Twig, has grown quite a bit in the last two years, and as a result we are in the process of moving to a bigger space. The planners were extremely helpful in guiding us through the process of starting the business, including getting a license, remodeling the inside of the store, getting signage, lighting, etc.”
-Susan Elliott , Twig
"This past year, the City has taken great strides to better facilitate small businesses. From Open for Business, to a more business friendly Planning Commission and City staff, our City is emerging on a strong footing following the biggest downturn since the Great Depression. I look forward to growing and nurturing my land use business, Talarico Associates for years to come."
-Aaron Talarico , Talarico Associates
“Dolce Gelato is a family-owned business in Laguna Beach. Although Laguna is one of the most popular destinations in the world, it maintains a small-town character, from the supportive local residents to the folks at City Hall. When I've needed help with something they've always responded quickly and fairly. And the business forums keep everybody informed. In short, Laguna is a great place to live and work.”
-Rick Baedeker, Dolce Gelato
“During the six-month setup of ClueHoo’s interactive clue hunt game in Laguna Beach, we interacted frequently with various City entities. ...The City offered us a warm welcome and hands-on support in our complex endeavor. All City departments were easily accessible either through one-on-one meetings or in productive group settings such as the Open Business Forum, and they offered us critical advice and available options for starting our business...Thanks, Laguna Beach!”
-Urs Wiederkehr , ClueHoo
