Communications Services: Dispatch

The Communications Services Unit operates under the Support Services Division. Not only do Laguna Beach Police dispatchers handle calls for Police services, but they are also responsible for Fire, Marine Safety, and Animal Services communications and dispatching.

Dispatchers assess the priority of incoming calls and assign resources in the field to those calls in order of priority. They run criminal and vehicle records checks for officers and coordinate police, fire and marine safety services with the CHP, Orange County Sheriff, Orange County Fire Authority, and neighboring cities.

The dispatch center is a state of the art facility with computer aided dispatching used in conjunction with digital video and audio recording devices. The computerized mapping system allows the dispatchers to determine which police officer is closer to a high priority call for service.
