Don't neglect your lateral line. That's the pipe that runs from your home to the city’s sewer line. Keeping it clean involves just two things:

1. Only put food from your garbage disposal, human waste, and toilet paper in your sinks and toilets
2. Have your lateral line periodically inspected by a licensed plumber to be sure it’s clean and crack-free.
