Laguna Beach Firefighters on Frontlines of Monument Fire

Last week, Laguna Beach Fire OES 1314 was dispatched to the Monument Fire in the Shasta trinity National Forest in Humboldt, CA. Laguna Beach Fire Captain Bryan Sarjeant, Fire Engineer Scott Hammond and Firefighter Kyle Valmassy are there on the Strike Team crew.

The Monument Fire has consumed 67,190 acres and remains at 3% containment. With storm cells expected over the fire areas today, extreme fire conditions exist as outflow winds can push the fire in any direction. Fuels are primed, available, and vulnerable to any new ignitions.

The Monument Fire has burned areas west of Big Bar, along both sides of Highway 299 and east of Cedar Flat. The fire has threatened the communities of Big Bar, Del Loma, Big Flat, and Burnt Ranch.

The City of Laguna Beach remains fully staffed and prepared to respond should an emergency happen here.
