What We Do

The Planning Division works with the community to shape the development of the City, while protecting historic resources and minimizing environmental impacts. Our key functions are long-range, current planning, and protection of established views from vegetation.

Long range projects include amendments to the General Plan Elements, Local Coastal Program, Specific Plans, and the Municipal Code. Current planning projects include non-residential projects (hotel, commercial, industrial, etc.), subdivisions, and residential development projects for conformance with the General Plan and Local Coastal Program policies, development standards, and Design Review Criteria. The Planning Division serves the Planning Commission and the Design Review Board.
