If your vehicle has been towed, please contact the Laguna Beach Police Department. You will need your driver's license for identification and $150.00 for the processing fee (Visa or Mastercard accepted). The tow agency requires a vehicle release form prior to releasing your vehicle and this form can only be obtained at the police department.
If your vehicle was impounded for expired registration over 6 months, please follow these instructions:
- Go to DMV and pay your registration fees or go to AAA, but only if you are a AAA member.
- Return to the Police Department with your DMV receipt and registration tabs.
- If, DMV is requiring you submit a smog certificate for completion of your registration, bring your receipt AND a one day moving permit with the date stamped. (AAA also provides one day moving permits).
- If you are NOT the registered owner bring a letter signed by the registered owner giving permission to release the vehicle to you. The signature must be notarized. We will accept a faxed copy of the letter with the notarized signature at fax # 949-497-0772.
- Bring your driver license for identification and $150 for the processing fee (Visa or Mastercard accepted).
- Once the required paperwork is complete the police department will provide you with the vehicle release form, which the tow agency requires before releasing your vehicle.
If the vehicle was impounded for one of the following reasons:
- The driver was unlicensed
- The driver was driving on a suspended or revoked license
The vehicle may have a 30-day hold on it. Once the 30 days are completed the vehicle may be released to the registered owner (if he/she is licensed) or to the registered owner and a designated driver who is licensed to drive.
