Captain Mike Peters retired from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department as a Commander with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. He held a variety of positions throughout his 26 years of service at OCSD. He started his career at the Central Men’s Jail before he patrolled the City of San Clemente. He served as a Tactical Officer and Academy Commander at the Orange County Sheriff’s Regional Training Academy. He became a SWAT Team member, Sergeant, and Special Enforcement Bureau Commander. As a lieutenant, he was the Patrol Operations Department Commander and served as the Chief of Police Services for the City of San Clemente. He was promoted to Division Commander for the North Operations Division, where he served the communities of Yorba Linda, Stanton, Villa Park, and unincorporated north Orange County, as well as the Emergency Communications Bureau. 

In his last assignment, he oversaw the Special Operations Division, which includes the Special Enforcement Bureau (SWAT, Bomb Squad, K-9s, and Crisis Negotiations Team), Air Support Bureau, and the Mutual Aid/Reserve Bureau.

In addition, Captain Peters has been an instructor for Santa Ana College for the last 16 years covering such topics as Emergency Management and Critical Incident Response, Leadership, Ethics and Professionalism, Community Policing, Emotional Survival for Law Enforcement and their families, and several tactical related courses. He is also an instructor for Long Beach State University teaching Incident Command and Leading Multi-generations for the California POST Management School.

Captain Peters has been married to his loving wife for the last 29 years and has three children. His oldest daughter is currently a Special Needs teacher. His son is a Deputy Sheriff, and his youngest daughter is currently finishing her degree in Communications at a local university.
