Thank you for participating in the 2023 Photo Contest!

In October 2023, the City of Laguna Beach held the City’s Photo Contest to those who live, work, or exhibit in Laguna Beach. The theme was “Through the Lens of Laguna Beach” and there were 122 photo submissions from 45 participants. The contest judge was local photographer Mary Hurlbut. 

The first place winner was Mitch Ridder (right) and runner-up winners were Keli Daniels (left), Christoper Allwine, and Gemma Totten. Congratulations!

The 2023 City Photo Contest Categories:

• Active Laguna

  • Capture action shots, sports events, or recreational activities taking place in the City, such as surfing, volleyball, hiking, or beach yoga.

• Nature’s Playground

  • Capture the breathtaking natural beauty of Laguna Beach, including its beach vistas, sunsets, and views of open space.

• Artistic Expressions

  • Capture the artistic spirit of Laguna Beach, whether it's through public art pieces or live concerts, or theatrical performances.

RULES 

1. Photographs must have been taken within the city limits of Laguna Beach. 

2. Each participant may enter up to three photographs. 

3. Photographs must not have been previously published. Photographs originally posted to Instagram may be submitted. 

4. Entries must be suitable for display on a public website. 

5. Photographs should be high resolution, for instance 300 dpi and/or at least 3 MB. 

6. All entered photographs may be used as content, with a photo credit, on the City’s website, newsletter, social media, or in other non-commercial ways to promote Laguna Beach. The photographer retains the copyright to his or her work. 

7. By entering this contest you agree to comply with the above rules. 

WINNING ENTRIES

First prize photos in each category will receive $500. Additional winners will receive $100 each. All winners will receive recognition at a City Council Meeting, be featured on the City’s social media channels, and will be posted in a gallery on the City’s website. The winners will be selected by a local professional photographer.
