Project Goals
- Underground all utility poles and overhead wires within project boundary
- Replace wood pole mounted street lights with new street lights
- Provide for underground connections and meter panel conversions on private property at no cost to the property owner
Coordination with Outside Agencies
- Impacts to traffic at South Coast Highway during construction
- Caltrans jurisdiction, permitting, inspections, etc.
- Coordination with Caltrans Sidewalk Project
- Limited right-of-way for installing utility vaults, handholes, and above-ground structures
Project Funding
Funding for the project is provided by the City through the accrual and purchase of Rule 20A credits from Southern California Edison. Property owners in the proposed area will have no cost towards reestablishing the connection. The project will make the connection to the private property. The estimated cost of the project is $5 million.
What Can the Property Owners Do?
The City encourages the property owners to:
- Work with contractors to complete the connection on private property
- Be aware of potential construction impacts (traffic, delays, etc.)
- Coordinate with the contractors the installation of utility vaults, handholes, and above-ground structures
Schedule:
- Southern California Edison anticipates construction to begin in Q1 2025
