Project Goals
- Underground all utility poles and overhead wires within the project boundary
- Any properties connected to the poles and wires being removed will receive underground connections and meter panel conversions on private property at no cost to the property owner
- Remove the existing street lights and install new street lights at roadway intersections per the City of Laguna Beach Guidelines for Street Lighting.
Project Funding
Funding for the project is provided by the City through the City’s previous purchases of Rule 20A credits from surrounding cities and held in the City’s account balance at Southern California Edison. Property owners in the proposed area will have no cost towards reestablishing a connection. The project will make the connections to the private property. The estimated Cost is approximately $3.6 million.
What Can the Property Owners Do?
The City encourages the property owner to:
- Participate in communicating with the Project Contractor during construction of utility undergrounding improvements at and around your property.
- Be aware of potential construction impacts (noise, dust, traffic delays, etc.).
- Allow construction of improvements on your property that only pertain to your utility connections such as: conduits for electric, phone and cable, electrical connections at panels, and the replacement of landscape and hardscape.
Schedule
Construction is scheduled to begin on September 9, 2024, for a duration of approximately six months.
